- Qualified as first certified greenkeeper, under City & Guilds of London programme, in Ireland in 1981.
- B.Sc. Turfgrass Management from Purdue University, USA, 1985
- Sales & Technical Director with Souter of Stirling, Scotland from 1986 to 1994, involved with pitch construction / renovations at clubs like Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leicester City, Murrayfield, Cardiff Arms Park
- Started Grass Technology International in 1988 to provide design and consultancy services to the sports turf industry, concentrating on the Irish market in golf course design, construction and agronomy.
- Started E.B.Connaughton Ltd in 1994 to provide independent advisory and design services to over 100 golf courses across Ireland and became the lead Agronomist to the IRFU. Developed the sports turf side to incorporate all pitch design, construction specifications, project management and agronomy consultations.
